AC/DC Support Plans for Bon Scott Statue in His Scotland Hometown

Bon Scott
Warner Bros.

AC/DC have thrown their support behind a campaign to erect a new statue of the late Bon Scott in the singer’s hometown of Kirriemuir, Scotland. Though AC/DC are known for their Australian pride, Scott actually moved to the continent from Scotland in his youth.

At the recent 2013 Bonfest in the city, the funding campaign begun and there is a goal of reaching 50,000 pounds by June 5. The project was initiated by DD8 Music who came up with the idea to erect the statue of Scott. The statue already has the backing of the local community counselors and DD8 Music has commissioned sculptor John McKenna to produce the work of art.

AC/DC is doing their part by rallying fans via their website and they suggest keeping up with the Bon Scott Statue Twitter page and Facebook site for status updates. For additional info and to contribute a donation, check out the Bon Scott statue Kickstarter page.

Graham Galloway from the DD8 told the BBC it was a huge boost to have AC/DC promote the campaign, adding, “They don’t just put anything up there, so it’s certainly a big step forward for us in getting worldwide support for the statue.” He also added that while they hadn’t heard specifically from the band, it was a good sign that they promoted the campaign on their site.

Ronald Belford “Bon” Scott was born in Kirriemuir, Scotland in 1946 and spent his formative years in the town. He passed away in London in 1980.
