Mike Leach Named Head Coach at Washington State
After two years away from football, the pirate captain is back. Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach was named the new head coach at Washington State on Wednesday.
According to CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman, who first broke the story, Leach’s contract will be for five years and will make him the third-highest paid coach in the Pac-12 at more than $2 million per year.
Penn State Head Coach Joe Paterno Could Lose His Job in Wake of Sex Scandal
Legendary coach Joe Paterno may be in his final days on the sidelines at Penn State, according to The New York Times.
The report cites two unnamed sources close to the PSU Board of Trustees who say that, while the exact timing and manner of his exit is still being discussed, it is clear that Paterno will not be back to coach the Nittany Lions next season.
NCAA Places Boise State on Three Years’ Probation
The Boise State football program has been placed on three years’ probation and stripped of nine scholarships (three each for the next three years) after being hit with NCAA sanctions for repeated rules violations regarding extra benefits for recruits and players.
