National Guard members stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base outside of Spokane are headed to Afghanistan, according to a press statement released today.

The Washington Air National Guard's 141st Civil Engineer Squadron is made up of about 50 citizen soldiers expected to construct "forward operating bases." They are expert in construction, carpentry, plumbing, and heating/air ventilation.

The squadron is expected to return in late summer. This will be its first deployment to Afghanistan.
