If you run your engine to warm it up, don't leave it unlocked!

Kennewick police are investigating two auto thefts from Thursday morning in which both drivers left their vehicles for just a moment!

The first theft occurred around 6 a.m., when a man in the 1200 block of West 7th left his car running outside briefly, but when he returned to go to work, it was gone. It's described as a 2000 Honda Accord, dark green in color with four doors. Police say a vehicle matching this description was involved in a hit-and-run accident a short time later in the vicinity.

The second theft occurred from the parking lot of the Circle K at 10th and Kennewick Ave.  The victim's car, a red 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spider with a brown top, was left unattended while the driver was in the store. A white female was seen entering the car and driving away.

Police advise drivers not to leave unoccupied or unlocked vehicles running. Police advise using a spare key to start the vehicle.
