Driver in Yesterday’s Fatal Accident on Clearwater was 84 – How Old is Too Old to Drive

There were two major accidents yesterday on Clearwater Ave.in Kennewick just minutes apart. The 1st accident a pedestrian was killed when an 84 year old man lost control of his vehicle and struck and killed a 60 year old Kennewick man. The 84 year old claims the accelerator got stuck and that is why he lost control of his vehicle.The second accident involved a Bicyclist who was hit and dragged under a pick up truck. The 54 year woman was taken to Kadlec medical center and later flown to Harborview.

First let me say my thoughts and prayers to all of the families involved. I was discussing the accident with my husband last night and he said he thought 84 was too old to be driving a car.

It got me thinking how old is too old? What is the appropriate age to give up driving? And why?
