No sooner did the Tri-City Americans announce their training camp roster, then the NHL came calling, and some notable players are going to be absent. (Brandon Carlo picture, played for US in World Junior Games).

Some of the players are already drafted, and it's standard procedure for the major league clubs to invite their draftees in for a look.  Some stay longer than others, and some wind up spending up to half a season in the NHL.

There's no way to tell this fall, but don't be surprised if some of the older players get a long, long look.

The five who have been called up are:

  • Defenseman Brandon Carlo, who was the 37th overall pick in the NHL draft by the Boston Bruins, will join their camp which starts September 10th.
  • Defenseman Parker Wotherspoon, the 112th overall pick by the New York Islanders, will join their camp.
  • Ty Comrie was invited to the Los Angeles Kings camp starting Friday September 11th.
  • Maxwell James and Austyn Playfair were both invited to the Arizona Coyotes camp.

GM Bob Tory had this to say about the callups:

“This is always a great experience for our players, We are proud of their accomplishments and know they will represent our organization well.”
