Next time somebody gives you trouble for being from Yakima, ask them this: When was the last time you had two bands the caliber of Godsmack and Red Sun Rising play your pissant town?

In Yakima, we just call that Wednesday.

But this Wednesday (Nov. 4), admittedly was an exceptionally great night to be in town.

Akron, Ohio's Red Sun Rising, currently riding near the top of the Billboard charts with "Otherside" from this year's "Polyester Zeal" album, opened the show at the Yakima Valley SunDome for a house full of rockers who were ready to roll.

Then Godsmack roared out with "Whatever" and "1000hp," followed by everything from "Voodoo" to a cover medley that included AC/DC, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and Rush. Mixing in their own classics and igniting the crowd by encouraging the faithful to use their cellphones as old-school lighters, the Boston band had the audience dancing, yelling and turning their rock horns skyward until after 11 p.m. (That's way past bedtime for pissant towns that don't get to have major rock acts ride through.)
