Green Day will continue their ‘love’ affair with MTV. The band, who’ve played the MTV Video Music Awards several times in the past and are premiering their ‘Oh, Love’ video tonight on the network, will perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

They join previously announced pop stars Alicia Keys, One Direction, and Pink among those performing at the Los Angeles-based event. This year’s ceremony takes place Sept. 6 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and marks their fifth time on the awards show.

Green Day are late to be eligible with their ‘Oh, Love’ video, but sit back and take in the evening knowing that they’ve already won 11 Moonmen, including six for their ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ clip.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently stated, “‘Oh, Love’ is kind of like leading with your heart and not necessarily with your brain as much. And kind of maybe losing your mind and shooting a little bit more from the crotch area.”

Meanwhile, bassist Mike Dirnt added of the video, “It pulls from the heartstrings, and it’s about love and sexual tension and things like that. That said, I think the video is gonna tip its hat in those directions. I know we’ve got some real fun scenes that might involve motorcycles and us playing live and possibly some chaos backstage and things like that.”

As for the ‘Oh, Love’ debut, the video premieres tonight on MTV at 7:49PM ET and all three members will be on hand to answer fan-submitted questions during a 30-minute post-debut interview at MTV.com.
