Our hometown hero and Olympic gold medalist’s new book has recently hit the shelves.

You can gain a mere glimpse of the book’s style when Solo stated, “My family doesn’t do happy endings. We do sad endings or frustrating endings or no endings at all. We are hardwired to expect the next interruption or disappearance or broken promise.” She gives an inside look into her life that many people don’t know.

Being an icon and role model for female athletes around the U.S., Solo has become a national celebrity over the years. But like many other big names, she didn’t start out with fame. Instead, she was raised here in Richland by a single and dedicated mother. Separated from her father as an infant, Solo stayed distant from her convict dad until many years later. Her book also reveals how she was conceived after her mother made a conjugal visit to her father. And it wasn’t until she became a top contender for the U.S National Soccer team that she reconciled with her then-homeless father.

Her memoirs continue with her home life and her career as well. Doubts and backlashes she felt after being benched at the 2007 World Cup are highlighted, including the controversy that arose soon after. We all know that Solo rose from the Bombers, to the Huskies, Sounders and even the national team, but now we get to know her personal version of the whole ordeal.

I guess our next question for Solo is when will she come home for an exclusive book signing? But in the mean time we can read her book ourselves or checkout some of the recent reviews.
