It's really not a huge shock , but it has finally been confirmed that there will be no Ozzfest in 2011. According to a statement on Ozzfest.com:

NO OZZFEST 2011 Ozzy has now confirmed for us that there will be no Ozzfest 2011 “No, not this year. I just finished a lengthy arena tour of the U.S., so I’ve decided to tour Europe this summer instead.”

The festival that kind of started it all back in 1997 by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne (when Ozzy was told by Lollapolooza organizers that he couldn't play their festival) has definitley had its shares of ups and downs through the years. Now for the second time in three years, Ozzfest will not take place at all this summer. Last year's Ozzfest was just a six-date tour that featured Ozzy, Motley Crue, Halford, Devildriver, and Nonpoint. There was no Ozzfest in 2009, while the 2008 edition was a one-day "destination" event in Dallas, Texas, starring Ozzy, Metallica, Apocalyptica, and Korn's frontman Jonathan Davis among others. I wont even mention the "free" fest debacle of 2007.

There definitely isn't a short of festival type shows this summer with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, soon to be announced Uproar Festival, Rock Hard in the Park, PDX Rockfest, and of course Van's Warped Tour...which I could see suffering the same fate as Ozzfest sooner than later unless it goes back to its roots.
