Local Judge Testifies After Guy Threatens to Chop Him Up
I spotted this story in the Tri-City Herald and found it very interesting from a legal stand point...It's not very often that a sitting Judge is called to the stand as well as a public defender....
Benton -Franklin Superior Court Judge Alex Ekstrom took the stand yesterday to testify that he felt threatened when a defendant in a court proceeding not only threatened to "Chop up the Judge" and his public defender December 30th last year.
Allegedly defendant 38 year old Brandon L. VanWinkle made the threats after Judge Ekstrom ordered that VanWinkle appear in court with extra restraints due to a previous assault on a man in another court proceeding.
According to the story in the Herald:
VanWinkle, 38, is on trial for the rarely used charge of intimidating a judge, along with felony harassment of a criminal justice participant.
