National Rosa Parks Day — Honoring a Brave Woman Civil Rights Activist
Today (Dec 1) is a day we have set aside for one of the greatest women in the world, Miss Rosa Parks. On Dec. 1, 1955, the African-American woman refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger.
But segregation on buses was legal in Montgomery, Ala., in those days, so Parks was arrested.
She was not the first one to refuse to give up her seat on a bus, but her action and her membership in the NAACP led to the Montgomery bus boycott and the ruling from the Supreme Court that banned racial segregation!
We honor this gutsy woman and pay tribute to her. Remember, the freedom isn't always free.
