Recently Amazon proposed to build a data center in land outside of Pendleton. The land in question is in an area mostly surrounded by farmland. The land was slated for farming, and if Amazon was going to get permission to build there, the lad had to be re-appropriated to industrial use. In a hearing on Thursday, Amazon got the permission from the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners to use the land and start construction on the data center.

There was a bit of a protest from some environmental groups, but by far the project was seen as good for the area. The data center will bring construction jobs, and more permanent jobs once the center opens; possibly up to 160 new jobs!
