It may scare you to realize that over 3,000 Washington State inmates have been released early because of a computer glitch. Reports say that the state just realized the glitch that has been causing early release for about 3 percent of all inmates since 2002! The glitch gave inmates too much good time credit causing them to be released early. Whatever happens, the state can not make most of the prisoners go back because of a Supreme Court ruling states if they are past their adjusted release date. There are at least seven prisoners that have to go back because their release date is still in the future that are not supposed to be released yet.

The error was discovered back in 2002 and an order was put in to fix the glitch, but it never happened. The state has no answer for why the glitch was ignored and not fixed for over 13 years.
