Soundgarden’s Matt Cameron: ‘We Were Totally Sick of Each Other’ in the ’90s
Soundgarden‘s split at the height of their success in the ’90s came as a surprise to many of their fans, especially given the fact that there wasn’t much trash talking or drama as they parted ways.
While they primarily kept their reasons to themselves, drummer Matt Cameron tells Rhythm Magazine (via Grunge Report), “Sure, it all became water under the bridge, we were never really mad at each other, it just came to a point where we were totally sick of each other. We just needed a break because we started from scratch and went to a pretty huge pinnacle of success. I think that whole process completely burnt us out.”
As for the time away, Cameron adds, “It’s good that we took what I consider to be a sabbatical. When we came back there were tons of really good ideas and the spark had not gone away at all. I don’t know how much longer it’s going to last but I’m really happy that it’s got to this point.”
