Soundgarden have roared back into the rock world with a vengeance. Not only will the band release a new album later this year, but the grunge goliaths recently hit fans with their first 100-percent new song in 16 years, ‘Live to Rise.’ Now, the track off the ‘Avengers Assemble’ compilation has taken over the No. 1 spot on the Active Rock airplay chart.

Soundgarden have officially completed recording their first album since ‘Down on the Upside,’ and according to frontman Chris Cornell, the disc will see the light of day in October.

In their first appearance in a music video since the Clinton administration, Soundgarden throw down the groove while The Avengers provide the excitement.

Now that you can officially stream the full-length version of ‘Live to Rise,’ Soundgarden‘s song on the ‘Avengers’ soundtrack — and first new music in 15 years — you’re probably wondering how it fits into the band’s next album, due sometime this year.

We’ve waited 15 years for something new from Soundgarden (we’re gonna pretend Audioslave and Chris Cornell’s collaboration with Timbaland never happened), and it’s been two years since they announced their reunion. So naturally we were thrilled this morning when Chris Cornell tweeted a preview of their new song, ‘Live to Rise,’ which will appear in the upcoming movie ‘The Avengers.’
