The Carmelcorn Shop, one of the last original business in the Columbia Center mall, will be closing it's doors for good on June 27th. The shop has been open for 46 years, serving Tri Cities with caramel corn, jelly beans, Italian sodas, espresso, and more. The original owners opened back in 1969 but in a different location then it is now according to sources. It has changed owners three times but is now closing it's doors for good.

The business owner was trying to reach the 50th anniversary but rising costs forced them to close before then. The costs of rising rent with the mall and the rising minimum wage were too much for the company to overcome. The hope is that another popcorn store will fill the space. Whatever store moves in will happen fast because the mall is at 98 percent capacity now and the space is needed.
