Uh Oh! Teens Can Now Be Out Past Midnight in Pasco!
You've probably seen the signs: Curfew 17 years and under... Well that ordinance is no more. City Council voted 4-2 to end the ordinance that had been in place for 22 years. It was originally created to lessen gang violence and graffiti in the 90s, but has been found to be unconstitutional. It has also been difficult to enforce because there are legitimate reasons for those 17 and under to be out that late (work, school or church functions, emancipated minors, etc.)
The hope is that parents will still encourage minors to be in at late hours other than approved functions, and there's no obvious indication that crime will increase with the lift of the ordinance. What do you think? Good idea, bad idea? Take the poll and see where you stand.
