It's the first-known diagnosis of an otter with asthma, but the one at the Seattle Aquarium has trouble breathing and X-ray confirmed it. Otters are smart little creatures, so they simply taught it to use an inhaler! Watch!

It all started with the smoke from the Chelan fires. People with asthma from British Columbia to Baker City were suffering. Mishka the otter had trouble breathing, too. They blame the rare illness on inbreeding. Otters went extinct in Washington state 40 years ago so the ones in the aquarium and in local rivers are imported from Alaska. Lack of genetic diversity makes them more susceptible to disease.

To use the inhaler Mishka touches it with her nose and takes a deep breath.
