On Wednesday, June 12, The Brad and I are heading to Yakima with the Washington Army National Guard to spend some time in the life of a citizen soldier. We'll be joining the 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment for half of a training day at the Yakima Training Center.

The 1/161st is headquartered in Spokane, but has units in Wenatchee, Pasco, Moses Lake, Yakima, Bremerton and Redmond. They will be conducting a three-week annual training period at YTC in June.

Training will include:
- Bradley Fighting Vehicle gunnery
- Abrams Tank live Fire Range
- Infantry Squad Live Fire Range

The 1/161st is part of the Washington Army National Guard’s 81st Brigade Combat Team, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from March 2004 – March 2005, and again from August 2008 – August 2009. The citizen-soldiers and airmen of the Washington National Guard are dedicated to the mission of safeguarding lives and property in Washington state, and serving as sentinels for freedom overseas.

Check out myself and The Brad getting our hair right to be Citizen Soldiers for a day.
