I have great admiration for those who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They spend untold hours standing there to make sure it stays safe and that the people who come to visit are respectful. From what I can tell on their website, the tomb, which was built around 1914, has been guarded since 1921. Little is known about the first couple of Honor Guards, or their time spent on duty.

This week we honor a man who is moving on in his military career, Max Gideon. He has been guarding the tomb since October of 2012. Thank you for your service and we wish you a long military career.

You have carried on an honorable tradition.
