This week, mosquitoes on Bateman Island in Richland have tested positive for West Nile Virus after showing up in the Tri-Cities area since June 26th of 2018.

Benton County Mosquito Control sprayed the island by truck last night and were also supposed to spray in the Prosser area, according to reports.

So far West Nile Virus has turned up in mosquito samples in areas near the Columbia River, West Richland, and in Columbia Park.

You can get West Nile Virus if you are bitten by an infected mosquito.

80% of people exposed do not get symptoms.

1 in 20 people that get symptoms, can get very sick and have permanent neurological damage or even die.
