Tatiana Volosozhar was clearly the crowd favorite Thursday night at the debut of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The women's skating stars have a tendency to become international darlings (remember Oksana Baiul and Kristi Yamaguchi?), and I predict big things for Tatiana.

She and her partner Maxim Trankov are the "couple" in the team skating event for Russia. The two of them are 2013 World Champions and she was the Russian national champion last year and the two of them hold the world record for the combined total score for the short program and the free skate.

The 27-year-old was dazzling in a blue dress Thursday night and she just may be one of those athletes who look good in everything.

True to the stereotype, she is Ukrainian. If they have ugly women in that country, we haven't seen them yet. She couldn't find a male skater to compete on her same level in Ukraine, so she joined the Russian national team. Her parents are of Russian ethnicity. Her first language is Russian.

If you ever get a chance to ask her out, yes, she speaks English.
