Funland playground at Butte Park in Hermiston is a charred mess right now, but that's not going to stop the mayor and community from rebuilding, according to reports.

Funland was rebuilt 18 years ago after a fire destroyed it back then. The cause of the recent fire is under investigation, but playgrounds don't generally just go up in flames by themselves. The 2001 fire at the playground was ruled arson.

Local clubs and businesses will be donating time and money to rebuild the park.

This story originally broke my heart. Butte Park is beautiful and that community deserves great places for kids to play. Cities like Hermiston, Prosser and Othello have parks that are the heart of the community.
