Italian horror legend Dario Argento is making a new film, 'The Sandman,' and he's recruited punk icon Iggy Pop to play the main role! Mixing supernatural folklore of the Sandman with a serial killer that takes on the character's moniker, Iggy Pop will portray the evil being behind the mask.

Dario Argento has made some of the greatest cult horror films of all time, including 'Susperia' and 'Inferno.' The legend is crowd-funding his 'Sandman' project, hoping to raise a total of $250,000 to create and release the film.

A description of the film reads, "'The Sandman' tells the story of Nathan, a young student in the city who struggles to forget his childhood trauma at the hands of the serial killer dubbed “The Sandman." Nathan killed The Sandman (Iggy Pop) years ago, on Christmas Eve, after he witnessed the murder of his mother...until he sees the beautiful woman who lives in the apartment across the way dying at the hands of that same masked killer. This brutal murder plunges Nathan into an odyssey into the night country of his past, his dreams … and the buried secrets of The Sandman. Christmas is coming, and so is The Sandman."

Iggy Pop also released a statement sharing his excitement to work with Argento. "I have long been thrilled and fascinated by the amazing films of Mr. Argento, all of which are master works," Iggy says. "Yes, and also compellingly strange, beautiful, and full of relentless terror. If I could play the Sandman for him it would make my life complete. I hope I have not just written my own epitaph."

For a little detail on the original concept of the Sandman, an enthralling characterization appears on the film's Indiegogo page:

Maybe other places, you've heard about other kinds of Sandmen -- forget everything you've heard. This guy doesn’t put sand in your eyes so you drift peacefully to sleep — don't you wish! This Sandman is the real deal, going back to the dark, original German legend: the REAL Sandman was someone who stole the eyes of any children that wouldn’t just close them and go to sleep... then he'd go feed them to his hungry children on the moon. Try telling that version to the kiddies next time they won't go to bed, and see where it gets you!

Fans who help fund the film can receive some awesome stuff in return, such as a t-shirt, a personalized autographed photo from Argento and pages from the script. But hold on, fans who contribute larger sums can appear in a scene with Iggy Pop or even be killed in 'The Sandman.'

'The Sandman' funding project has currently gained nearly $14,000 of its $250,000 goal. Fans will be able to contribute via Indiegogo until Nov. 8 at 11:59PM PT.
