Let's give a big shout-out to first responders and the brave people who sometimes put their lives on the line to rescue fallen or lost hikers, horse riders, people on ATV's and outdoor enthusiasts of every kind.

It seems that wildlife and domestic pets also get themselves into dangerous predicaments. Such is the case of this Giraffe.

An amazing rescue saved this Giraffe from certain death.

Have you ever had to be rescued? I think it would be pretty embarrassing. I often get myself lost while exploring new trails hiking or horseback riding.

I've never had to be rescued though (knock on wood) Eventually I seem to find my way back but sometimes it takes me longer than I'd like.

Ramblr is a good tracking App that could help you retrace your journey.

Outdoor Enthusiasts disappear often due to being lost.

My sister Beth was riding one time with other horse riders and they all got lost and had to summon help for a rescue off a mountain in Utah. (Teehee)

There are Apps now that can help you track your route. So unless you are injured, your chances of needing rescue are unlikely. It's good to always be prepared in case

Remember when you leave the base of a mountain for a hike or horse ride, prepare yourself for an unexpected change in weather. It can be much different at a higher elevation. Fire danger can also be an issue.

Prepare as best you can and make sure you have a way to contact someone should you fall or have an injury or illness.

Satellite phones are a good thing to have if possible. Or a walkie-talkie, GPS, or tracking capability of some kind.

Let others know when you are leaving and what time to expect you back

Take safety seriously.

By all means, get out and enjoy the beautiful world around us! Especially this time of year!

Lifeflight Insurance is available for those wanting protection. I think this would be a helpful and reassuring thing to have. And could save you financially if you should ever find yourself needing medical help.
