I say NO! IF they are used correctly and with proper training.

Most of us have at least one, if not several dogs. If you're like me, you can't remember a time when you didn't have a dog or two as part of your family.

I'm not the kind of dog owner that makes their pet stay outside so they don't get the house dirty. My dogs are very much a part of my family.

That being said. I don't like an unruly child or dog. So I put great effort into making sure my pets are well behaved and also get the care and attention they need. I think every good pet owner does.

I love spending time with my dogs walking or hiking and when it's not too hot, I also take them on my horse rides and up in the mountains camping.

My Pitbull/Sharpe dog, I adopted when he was 8 months old. He's five now so I've had plenty of time to train him and he's very well behaved.

My other dog is Sable, I rescued her about a year ago and she's probably close to two.

I like to let them off leash to romp and play and sniff and Pee and they love to thoroughly enjoy our walks and  hikes together. But, every now and then, they would chase wildlife or run up to another person on the trail. Even though they generally behaved well, I just couldn't trust that it was safe for them to be off leash.

Should I get my dog the Rattlesnake Vaccine

I also worry about Rattlesnakes, or cars or another vicious dog etc. I needed to know my dogs were always listening and I could keep them safe.

Remember there ARE Rattlesnakes in Tri-Cities!

Then my friend let me know about the Garmin electronic leash collars! I was horrified at first. The thought of shocking my dog was something I would never do. But, as I researched and learned more, I've discovered it to be the best training tool! And, the good news is you don't have to ever 'Shock" your dog. You begin with a tone and then a vibrate. Only in very drastic situations would you need to use the shock mode, and then you start with a very low level so it only alarms them. They learn quickly.

Now I can take my dogs literally everywhere off leash and they behave perfectly and I can be assured that I can keep them safe.
