Construction zone. Flaggers. New concrete dividers.

The troublesome crosswalk near Kamiakin High School on Edison has gone through an extreme makeover and it just doesn't seem to be enough of a heads up for a certain Kennewick driver.

The driver slammed on his brakes and came to a screeching halt with tires smoking as his car struck a high school kid as the student jumped up and then hit the ground. Other than being pretty shook up, the student is expected to be okay.

The cops say it was a combination of going too fast, high pedestrian traffic crossing the street for lunch and driver inattention. Kennewick Police are urging patience or to use an alternate route if you just can't obey construction zone speed limits.

At least we're not Yakima. Up in the Palm Springs of Washington, Yakima drivers have committed 1525 school zone speeding infractions in the last 2 and a half years! It's a wonder no children have been seriously hurt.

Comment below on what you think are the most troublesome school zones in the Tri-Cities.
