Tonight after 1 a.m. look to the sky if it is clear and you will likely see the northern lights reports say. The forecast calls for at least partly cloudy skies but check anyway because it is so rare that we get to see them this far south very often. The northern lights are caused by a huge solar flare from our sun that will reach earth tonight and the effects will stick around until just after New Years. If the skies are cloudy tonight, you may get to see them on New Years Eve but the lights will not be as strong as they are tonight.
