21-Year NHL Player Skates Final Lap With Opposing Goalie in His Final Game

Hockey is one of those sports where you can like players that aren't on your team. For me, one of those players is Teemu Selanne, who has played his final NHL game after 21 seasons in the league. The "Finnish Flash" is the all-time leader in scoring at the Olympic ice hockey tournament with 43 points in his Olympic career.

One of the greatest of all time, Selanne, the last active Hartford Whale player, is finally calling it quits. Selanne will be remembered for his longevity, his class, and perhaps his friendships. After long-time Mighty Duck teammate Paul Kariya signed with Colorado in 2003, Selanne opted out of his own contract with San Jose to join Kariya on the Avalanche.

After one year in Colorado, Teemu Selanne would return to Anaheim with the re-named Ducks, and hoist the Stanley Cup in 2007.

The goalie of that championship team, Jean Sebastien Giguere, was on hand for Selanne's last game, a 3-2 Ducks win over Giguere's team, the Colorado Avalanche.

After the game, Selanne, who had been given the captaincy for the game, was named first, second, and third stars of the game. When he was about to take his victory lap, he grabbed former teammate Jean Sebastien Giguere's hand to join him for one last trip around the ice.
