51st State Idea, Again, See Surprising Reason It Could Work
Two State representatives from Spokane Washington are once again asking Olympia to consider making Eastern Washington the 51st state of the United States of America.
Representatives Matt Shea (R-Spokane Valley) and Bob McCaslin (R- Spokane Valley) have submitted House Bill 1509, an act "relating to establishing the new state of Liberty." The two lawmakers have submitted similar proposals before.
The Reps propose the new state which would basically be divided by the Cascade Mountain range should be called Liberty....
According to the Website called LibertyState.ORG
Welcome to the official Liberty State website! The movement to create a Liberty State is not a new concept. However, it has recently been met with a resolve unlike nothing we have seen in modern times. A government is supposed to best represent the culture, heritage, traditions, values, and beliefs of its citizens. Currently, we are already two states on virtually every major issue of the day from water, guns, and wolves to taxes, regulations, and life. In fact, some in Seattle say we are a bunch of “welfare freeloaders” siphoning off money from their social programs and that us “hicks” are constantly an impediment to their more “enlightened” social policies. When both sides are unsatisfied with their representation, some things are just better apart. Separating from the politics of downtown Seattle is popular, practical, and principled. We are
LIBERTY, founded in truth!
Basically the website claims that Eastern Washington has roughly the same number of residents as the entire state of Idaho and produces a similar amount of tax revenue. Therefore could sustain itself based on the fact it would not have the same size and scope of government as Washington State. Thus, there is more than enough money. To drive this point home, if Liberty State found just 10% savings in the size and scope of government it could easily operate without any property or income taxes.
