My first date with my wife was Smokey and the Bandit at the theater. I never fell out of love with the girl or the car. In fact, my very first car was a beat up 1970 Firebird. I sure wish I would've kept that one. And the other four Trans Ams that followed it through the years.

Believe me, today for me is just as sad as the passing of Jerry Reed. But when someone dies and doesn't die too early, I try to find a little happiness in that. A great career, fame and all that goes with it is nice, but even for grandmas and grandpas that die in their 80's or 90's who are just regular folks like me, I try to feel more happy about their long life, than sad that they are gone. We all handle death differently.

I have watched the outtakes of Cannon Ball Run a hundred times over the years, and it always makes me laugh. I'm actually tearing as I write this, but I'll watch it again and smile. I hope you do too.

Thank you, Burt.
