Tri-Cities Theater Company Brings a Modern Twist to a Shakespeare Classic
This ain't your daddy's Shakespeare! The Rude Mechanicals, the Tri-Cities Shakespeare Company, is bringing a modern edge to the classic 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Known for their unique interpretations of The Bard's works (their winter production Julius Caesar cast Caesar as a woman), they've done it again by modernizing Midsummer. In the original, there are 4 lovers at the center of the play: Lysander & Hermia, and Demitruis & Helena (boy girl, boy girl).
In director Robbie Hanson's production, one of the couples is a same-sex couple: Lysandra & Hermia. To escape a harsh law of Athens, and the outrage of Hermia's father, Lysandra and Hermia escape in to the forrest- well the Forrest Bar in this show. Modeled after the LGBT scene on Seattle's Capitol Hill, the couple runs in to fairies, mischief, and all kinds of shenanigans before the long night is through.
If you want to have the most fun you've ever had at a play you've GOT to check this out. The show opens June 8th at 7pm in the Uptown Theatre. Oh, and yes, you'll recognize me (Raleigh) as Lysandra! I even wrote an article for Tumbleweird about my experience during this show. GET TICKETS ONLINE HERE and check out this other article about the show as well.
Come out and have a blast at the theatre and get ready for some sexy Shakespeare!
