Adelitas Way have been making a lot of noise with their latest release, ‘Home School Valedictorian’ with their first two singles, ‘Sick’ and ‘The Collapse.’ There’s even a special appearance from Theory of a Deadman’s Tyler Connolly on the release and lead singer Rick DeJesus recently told Loudwire all about it.

The song, ‘I Wanna Be,’ was a collaboration between Connolly and DeJesus after being denied access to a bar in Los Angeles, Calif. Some guys would pick a fight, others write songs. DeJesus shares the story, “One day I was out in L.A. with him, we were just hanging out, had dinner, and we were going to go to this little bar.” He continued, saying, “So we walked up the door, and the door guy put his arm in front of us and told us we couldn’t come in, to go to the back of the line. We were like “No, thanks,” and bolted.”

Who knew that’s all it took to inspire a great rock tune? DeJesus and Connolly hit the road, went back to Connolly’s place, and busted out the the song together. “We went back to Tyler’s house and we were both kind of laughing about the situation and how much of a d–khead the door guy was and we decided we should write a song about it. That’s kind of how ‘I Wanna Be’ started,” recounts Dejesus.

The rest, as they say, is history according to DeJesus, “We wrote it together, then he [Connolly] came into the studio and sang and played guitar, and that’s how the song came about.”

Having toured with Theory of a Deadman quite a lot over the past few years, Adelitas Way are thankful to the band, saying, “Tyler and Theory of a Deadman have really taken us under their wing. They’ve taken us out on tour a lot, they’re just good guys.”
