Jack Nicholson Starring in American ‘Toni Erdmann’ Remake, His First Major Role in Almost 10 Years [UPDATED]
While many were a little perturbed at the idea of an American remake of last year’s award-winning German-Austrian comedy Toni Erdmann, and that it’s happening so soon after the original was released, we have some extremely good news today: Jack Nicholson, whose last starring role was in 2010, has been set to star in our Toni Erdmann.
David Fincher Still Interested in ‘World War Z’ Sequel, If It Ever Happens
On Monday, Paramount did a little housecleaning. The studio removed two major movies, Friday the 13th and World War Z 2, from its schedule, and both are currently in limbo. The World War Z sequel didn’t even have a director, so it looked like the project was being abandoned for good, or at least put on the way back burner while the studio focused on something else. But director David Fincher, who has expressed a lot of interest in the project, is reportedly still down. It’s up to the studio now.
Most of ‘Ready Player One’ Will Be Set Inside the OASIS Using Motion-Capture
Ready Player One could best be described as absolutely maddening to adapt into a movie. First of all, in Ernest Cline’s book you have two separate worlds to deal with: the dystopian slum world America has devolved into, and then the virtual world inside the OASIS that people use to escape their reality. The OASIS is peppered with ’80s and ’90s pop culture references — they become integral to the plot — so it makes sense that Steven Spielberg, one of the people who essentially created the late 20th century pop culture landscape, would be a good choice to direct it.
Rumor: The ‘Han Solo’ Spinoff Might Be Headed to a New Holiday Release Date
The shift from summer to Christmas for The Force Awakens came as a bit of a shock to Star Wars fans, who were so used to seeing the earlier installments of the first two trilogies hit theaters in the warmer months. Summer releases for Star Wars movies had become something of an unspoken tradition, so the holiday release had some feeling a little perturbed. Disney and Lucasfilm sure weren’t, though, as The Force Awakens raked in that holiday box office cash, topping every Star Wars movie before it in less than twelve parsecs. Now, a rumor has surfaced that the Han Solo spinoff, which has so far been scheduled for May 2018, might get bumped forward to December.
‘Deadpool’ Is the Most Pirated Movie of 2016
When is a superhero movie like Game of Thrones? When it’s the most pirated movie of the year, of course. On a new list of all the movies downloaded from popular torrenting site BitTorrent, the merc with a mouth tops the chart over Batman v. Superman, Captain America: Civil War, and The Force Awakens.
Marriage Is Real Complicated in the ‘Between Us’ Trailer
In the last few years, we’ve seen a lot more movies that take a more honest look at love in all its complexities, rather than the fairytales that have usually been handed to us wrapped up in a perfect bow. The latest in this new let’s-be-honest-about-how-weird-relationships-are-for-once trend is Between Us, a film from Mexican director Rafael Palacio Illingworth.
‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Is Fandango’s Most Anticipated Movie of 2017
When it comes to online movie polls, which ones do you think the public is usually most excited for: little indie pictures or huge superhero/sci-fi/fantasy blockbusters? Spoiler alert— it’s the blockbusters. Shocking, I know. In Fandango’s year-end poll of the most anticipated movies of 2017, Star Wars: Episode VIII, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the live-action Beauty and the Beast took the top spots.
Scarlett Johansson Wields Two Weapons in a New ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Image
With 2016 almost over, thankfully, it’s time to turn our collective attention to everything we’re excited for in the new year. Our staff even drew up a list of all the movies we’re most anticipating, and among those is the Ghost in the Shell adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson. To say that the movie remains controversial would be an understatement, but we can’t deny that it looks stunning. There’s even a new image from the movie to prove it.
There’s a Lot of Fire and a Lot of Ape in This ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Concept Art
Kong’s beats may not be on fire, but his island sure is. A new concept art image from Kong: Skull Island shows the ape bursting through a wall of flames while tiny soldiers run for their lives in the foreground. You can tell the production team liked this one, because it looks like it comes straight out of the actual trailer itself.
Saw Gerrera Might Be Back for More ‘Star Wars’ Projects
While Rogue One is just a standalone and won’t be getting a sequel (you could argue that the original trilogy is technically all the sequel it needs), Saw Gerrera, one of the more intriguing characters in the movie, will be back for more projects in the Star Wars universe.
A Fourth and Final ‘Expendables’ Movie Is Coming in 2018
The Expendables is a good time. Sylvester Stallone and his almost-over-the-hill pals unite in an explosion-filled thriller flick that sees all of our dads’ favorite action heroes team up to fight crime and save the world. The two sequels were less of a fun time, each one more repetitive and earning less at the box office than the last, but it looks like the buddies will be reuniting for one last ride in 2018.
Rumor: ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Could Feature a Practical-Effects Supreme Leader Snoke
With Rogue One just around the corner, are we all getting snoked — uh, I mean — stoked for Episode VIII? By the time we get to see it, it’ll have been two years since we last caught up with Finn, Rey, Poe, BB-8, and the rest of the gang who are all set to return for the next installment. And we can’t forget the villains: Kylo Ren will probably play a huge part in the next episode, as will Captain Phasma. But what about a certain extremely tall Supreme Leader, who seems to be pulling the strings behind the First Order? We’ll see him too, but he might look a little different.
