Ben & Jerry’s Schweddy Balls Ice Cream Inspired by Alec Baldwin’s ‘SNL’ Skit [VIDEO]

For its latest flavor, ice cream purveyors Ben & Jerry’s drew from history. Comedic history.

Months after Alec Baldwin dropped hints that a flavor named “Schweddy Balls” was on the horizon, B&J have made it a reality. The concoction, made of vanilla ice cream with fudge-covered rum and malt balls, got its name from an old ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch win which Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer play low-key NPR hosts who delight in holiday confections made by eatery-owner Pete Schweddy (Baldwin).

Schweddy’s specialty is balls — popcorn, rum, and cheese — and of course, this being ‘SNL’ and all, it isn’t long before the ladies are tasting and swooning over his Schweddy balls.

In a Ben & Jerry’s press release, Baldwin said:

“For a long time, I thought that ‘Here Lies Pete Schweddy’ would end up on my tombstone. Now, thanks to Ben & Jerry’s, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won’t go with me to the great beyond. It is immortalized here, right now, and it’s an ice cream. Ben & Jerry’s and Schweddy. Two great names in American dessert, together at last.”
