Can Washington’s $750 Million Lotto Winner Buy the Space Needle?

It's the million-dollar question. Or in this case, the $750 million question. What would you do if you won the lottery?

Well, one Washingtonian did win the lottery. A winning Powerball ticket was sold in Auburn, with the option to cash out for a little over $400 million. $400 million is certainly "never work another day in your life" money, and you could spend a little lavishly each year without going broke. Unfortunately, there are far too many stories of folks being unprepared for their new life as rich people and it all swirls down the drain. Speaking of smart spending, I've been kicking this question around in my head that I wanted to run by you.

Is the lottery jackpot enough money to buy the Space Needle?

So, I already know the Seattle Seahawks are far too expensive for someone with a $400 million budget, as the team's value is in the billions. Now, you could buy a decent stake in the team, maybe enough for a suite at home games. But could you swing a deal for the Space Needle?

Back in 1962, it cost $4.5 million to build the Space Needle. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $44,224,718.54 in 2023. But there's more to that. In 2018, the Space Needle underwent a $100 million renovation. So far, the price tag is $144,224,718.54, which isn't even half of our imaginary budget. But the big question is would the Wright family even be willing to sell it? My guess is probably not.

The Space Needle is without a doubt, the most iconic building in Seattle and has been the symbol of the city since its debut at the 1962 World's Fair, which by the way, had Elvis on hand as he filmed a movie.
