We need to celebrate National Whipped Cream Day. It’s great straight from the can or when licked off of someone special.

Yep. We went there.

That sweet white good stuff from a spray can has been around longer than you might think.

Reddi-wip was invented in 1948 by Aaron “Bunny” Lapin, and today is his birthday as well as National Whipped Cream Day. Lapin was born on Jan. 5, 1914 and died in 1999, according to sources.

The canned desert (and girlfriend or boyfriend) topper has come in a variety of flavors, including vanilla, chocolate, and orange.

The original whipped cream was called “milk snow” or “snow cream” until 1673 when it was dubbed whipped cream. The recipe dates back to the 1500’s.

“In these recipes, naturally separated cream is whipped, typically with willow or rush branches, then the resulting foam on the surface would, from time to time, be skimmed off and drained, which was a process taking an hour or more,” stated National Day Calendar’s website.

You can buy a can of Reddi-wip or make your own, and apply it to a pie, shake, cookies, your girlfriend or your boyfriend (We’re not picky.) or you could just blast it into your mouth.

Enjoy!
