More progress on the Cold Creek Fire on Monday. The fire is now 65% contained at a revised 564 acres. A news release from the US Forest Service says "crews and other resources are being released from the incident as appropriate as the fire activity is becoming more reduced. The reduction in the overall acreage of the fire is due to better mapping."
Highway 12 opened over White Pass on Monday afternoon. Drivers are warned that fire is still burning on both sides of the Highway. Loose Rock and rolling debris is possible so they ask drivers to be careful. Tuesday is expected to be warmer in the fire area and drier so they could see an increase in fire activity. Rain is in the forecast for the end of the week so firefighters say they hope to fully contain the fire by the weekend.
Level 2 evacuation notices are still in effect for 50 residences still threatened by the blaze. The cause remains under investigation.
