County Officials Warn of New Jury Duty Phone Scam
Officials from Franklin County are warning about a new phone scam trying to steal your money.
The scammers pretend to be from Franklin County, say you have missed jury duty, and that you need to pay them to avoid jail. They will sound convincing and have the name of a real judge, case number, and other information, according to reports. They might even say you have a warrant out for your arrest to scare you into paying them.
The scammers want you to pay with prepay debit cards and to read the serial numbers to them over the phone.
The county wants people to know that they will never contact you by phone to make you pay a fine for missing jury duty.
If you think you have received a scam call like this, do not pay them, hang up, and call the police to report the call.
