Chicago Celebrates David Bowie Day Today
Last week, Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that Sept. 23 would be the city's official David Bowie Day. Well, if you check your calendar, it's time to start celebrating ... today!
Why Chicago you might ask? An exhibit dubbed 'David Bowie Is' opens at the Museum Of Contemporary Art Chicago today, encompassing the full length of Bowie's career and history.
The same exhibit has already taken residency in London, Berlin, Sao Paulo and Toronto. It will remain open in Chicago through Jan. 4, when it will then most likely find a new home.
Emanuel, who appears to be a pretty big Bowie fan himself, gloated about the singer in his proclamation of this historic day, declaring, "David Bowie has impacted and inspired millions of fans across the globe for more than 50 years .... his half-century career has bridged cultures and faiths while both transcending and fortifying the music, art, fashion and design, and theatrical cannons."
