Four Killed & Seven Injured in Head-on Crash Between Car and Tour Bus

A tragic crash on State Route 28 near Wenatchee on Sunday resulted in four fatalities including teenagers. The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. when a car attempted to pass another vehicle in the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a commercial tour bus. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is investigating the cause of the crash and is currently unsure whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

The crash happened around 15 minutes southeast of Wenatchee, Washington, near milepost 11. Authorities now say the westbound car veered into the oncoming lane while trying to pass another vehicle. The passing car then hit the bus heading eastbound head-on causing it to crash into a nearby ditch.

WSP officials confirmed that the driver and passenger of the car, both 17 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was identified as a 17-year-old girl, and the passenger as a 17-year-old boy. Also, the 66-year-old driver of the commercial tour bus also died at the scene of the crash.

The bus was carrying several passengers and was heavily damaged with several victims transported to the hospital. One victim later died at the hospital bringing the total death toll for the accident to four. The other injured passengers were listed with various conditions, both critical and non-life-threatening.

The Washington State Patrol opened a detour route for drivers on State Route 97 or State Route 2 to bypass the scene of the crash on SR 28 for hours during their investigation. WSP has urged anyone with information to come forward.
