In the post-fight news conference last month after he defeated Robert Guerrero, Floyd Mayweather Jr. said that he'd be back in September for another fight. Today, that became official as the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world named his next opponent. Answering boxing fans pleas, Mayweather will be stepping into the ring against the also undefeated and soon-to-be 23 year-old Canelo Alvarez.

With a combined 80+ wings, more than half of which are knockouts, Mayweather and Alvarez are each confident in their own skills. Mayweather said:

Canelo is a good young fighter, but he's bitten off more than he can chew. I'm going to whip that ass. This is a whole other level we're talking about.

Alvarez believes he's got a good chance to knock off the champ, saying:

He's a great fighter, but I have intelligence in that ring and I have the same speed he has. I can use my head, but I have that special thing: I have some power that will help me.

Mayweather vs. Alvarez will be September 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.
