My wife and I are trying to do same-day road trips away from the Tri-Cities and we've been discovering hiking trails in our area. I'm not so enamored (ha ha ha) with the challenge of some of these trails but my wife is loving them.

One trail we explored this weekend was outside Dayton Washington in the Umatilla National Forest. It proved to be a challenge and if you looking for a trail that'll give you a challenge, it's this trail. It's called the Tucannon River Trail.

Here is the description of the trail according to the National Forest Service:

Tucannon River Trail is a 7.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Dayton, Washington that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Take a look at some of the best parts of the trail that we snapped some photos of:

Hiking Trail Near Dayton Washington Provides Challenge

A hiking trail outside of Dayton Washington provided the perfect day trip and adventure outside of the Tri-Cities.

It costs $5 to hike the trail and I'd advise having a reliable vehicle to navigate the backroads. Our Subaru did great but I'd recommend a truck if you have one. The road can be a little rough but the trail will be fun and worth it.
