It's TRUE!  Any document that you put in the regular garbage is available to anyone that wants to look through it. Don't place ANY documents with your information in the regular garbage!

What should you shred?

Experts say to shred pay stubs, bank statements, and medical bills that have been paid. After 7 years, there's no reason to keep old tax records longer than the IRS requires. Also, shred any tax-related documents used to support those tax returns. If you're hanging onto expired passports, driver’s licenses, copies of birth certificates, old insurance policies, or resumes, take them to get shredded.

Documents to keep are:

Birth certificates or adoption papers, Social Security cards, citizenship papers or passports, marriage or divorce decrees, and death certificates of family members.
Also, keep auto titles and home deeds. These should be kept safe for as long as you own the property.

Pack up your old receipts, old pay stubs, expired passports and visas, canceled and voided checks, credit card charge bills, and any documents with PIN numbers and passwords. Bring them with you to be shredded.

If you need more, here's what WA State recommends.

For Kennewick Shred Day, there is a maximum limit of 3 bankers boxes per person.
