A woman was arrested after she punched a Kennewick Police officer in the face.

The incident took place Monday morning at about 8:30 am. Police officers were called out to the area of 8th and Cedar on a report of a suspicious person. A female was loitering in a resident's backyard.

When confronted the unidentified woman ran away.

Kennewick Police officers located the suspect in the area of East 10th Avenue and South Alder Street a short time later. As officers approached her, she became confrontational. As they attempted to deescalate the situation the woman punched an officer in the face.

The woman was arrested and taken into custody.

The 19-year-old was booked into the Benton County Jail for third-degree assault, a class C felony.
