A Moses Lake man is dead and a woman remains hospitalized after the man's pit bull dog attacked them. An autopsy is being scheduled for the man.

Grant County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Foreman said deputies were called to a residence in the the Harvest Manor Mobile Home Park on Airway Drive in Moses Lake Thursday morning at 11:20 for a report of an animal attack.

A woman was found with serious but non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a dog attack and was taken to Samaritan Hospital.  On scene were Grant County Sheriff's Office Deputies, Moses Lake Police Department Officers, firefighters from Grant County Fire District #5, AMR paramedics and members of the Moses Lake Fire Department.

Foreman said first responders tried to resuscitate the man at the scene, 27-year old Zachary S. Willis of Moses Lake, but he was pronounced dead. Foreman said the man’s injuries were consistent with a dog attack.
Foreman said the dog appeared to be a pit bull or similar mix. The dog was injured during the incident and was taken to a local veterinarian. It remains unclear at this time the circumstances that led to the deadly exchange between human and canine.

Detectives have not yet been able to interview the woman about the circumstances surrounding the attack.

There continues to be a significant nurture-over-nature debate whether apparent aggressive tendencies in pit bulls may be appropriately attributed to owners' care for the dog or inherent qualities.
