Specific: • Responsible for obtaining and retaining an Oregon Private Pesticide license applicator and trainers license• Responsible for the inventory levels and maintenance of pesticides and storage• Responsible for proper use, application and record keeping of all pesticides• Responsible for the crop protection team and spraying schedules• Oversees and performs application of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers on all crops• Oversees pesticide solutions and scouting to control insects, disease and weeds• Maintains a good understanding of crop protections, function and safety• Maintains a rapport with crop protection and fertility experts for advice• Responsible for crop protection spending per purchasing policy• Responsible for maintenance and performance of all pesticide and fertilizer application equipment and documentation • Compost: compost tea creation, raw material procurement and maintenance, formulation, finishing of compost and maintenance of finished compost and effective application for highest crop health.• Advise farm manager on annual (December of each year) and specific instance pesticide and fertility needs by supplying an annual crop fertility budget and weekly scouting report from March-October monthly November through February.
Supply and Inventory Control: • Organize and maintain to avoid any disruption of applications assuring accurate timing of application• Suggests ideas and solutions to improve efficiencies• Control excessive use of supplies with goal to ensure <1% each month• Review all paperwork for neatness and accuracy• Update Farm Manager of any losses of inventory and parts• Maintains adequate parts and supplies inventory in conjunction with Farm Manager to manage equipment downtime to a minimum.
Safety/Security: • Responsible for monthly safety committee meetings, quarterly walk arounds, and documentation• Complies with and enforces all safe work practices and safety rules• Performs accident investigations • Oversees the safety of all field workers and applicators: monitors proper use of PPE (personal protection equipment), and ensures that only safe tools and equipment are being used. Responsible to report and remedy any unsafe work environment, equipment or condition and bring them to the attention of the Farm Manager and HR ASAP.• Responsible to ensure all safety guards are in place and functioning correctly on all farm machinery• Responsible for managing any and all visitors and/or trespassers, ensuring the safety of Sandy Farms and its employees• Housing- Keep current with all rules and regulations regarding employee-housing. adherence to policy, quarterly housing inspections for safety and all rules compliance both governmental and Sandy Farms.
