A committee in the Washington State House of Representatives approved a bill that would ban bump stocks: trigger devices that allow semi-automatic rifles to fire more rapidly, similar to the ones used in the Las Vegas mass murder that killed 58 and injured hundreds of others in October, 2017.

The measure passed out of the full Senate last month (29-20 vote) and passed the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday (10-3 vote). It is still uncertain if the bill will make it to the House floor where legislative leaders have suggested it will need bipartisan support to pass.

The ban would make it illegal for anyone in Washington to manufacture or sell bump stocks beginning July 1 as well as become illegal to own or possess one in Washington.
