Oops! Weather Channel Gets Caught Faking It!

Hurricane season is a busy time. It's busy for meteorologists and the hurricanes themselves.

Hurricane Florence was terrible. It hit the U.S. coast as a tropical storm, but it left 36 people dead total (directly and indirectly.)

That being said, the Weather Channel didn't need to exaggerate the strength of the storm during a newscast that saw two people casually stroll through the camera's shot as the reporter hung on for dear life.

Angela Fritz of the Washington Post summed it up well when she said, "Really? There is no need for this. The wind is not the story here, and everyone knows it because they watched Florence drop in strength before it made landfall."

In response to the controversy, the Weather Channel dug their hole a little deeper.

"“It’s important to note that the two individuals in the background are walking on concrete, and Mike Seidel is trying to maintain his footing on wet grass, after reporting on-air until 1 a.m. ET this morning and is undoubtedly exhausted."

Really?
